Excerpts from Brad Hambrick’s In This Together interview (plus behind the scenes photos)

July 6, 2017 by Sam Hodges

We recently recorded another In This Together interview. (In This Together is a new video series our team is working on. In This Together will equip laypeople to share the pastoral care workload by helping them understand and enjoy biblical friendships.)

This time we sat down with Brad Hambrick. He’s the counseling pastor at The Summit Church in Durham, NC. We recorded his interview at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Durham Bulls are a Triple-A minor league baseball team (they’re affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays).

Watch the video to learn why we shot his interview at a ballpark, and discover why difficult conversations are … difficult. And take a peek below to see some behind-the-scenes photos from our shoot.

Matt Bowman, our director of video services, sets up the camera for one of Brad’s first shots of the day. Why was it first on our list? We had to get this shot before the sun rose above the stadium.
Tucker, our intern, pretends to know what he’s doing with the camera. He’s become quite skilled at this.
I got to sit in the dugout while Brad and his friend Eric Stortz, who works with him at The Summit Church in Durham, NC, tossed the ball around on the field.
Heidi Bowman, our project manager, makes sure we’ve captured all the shots of Brad and his friend in the stadium.
The interview begins. A TV production secret? We’re using the clamp on Brad’s shirt to keep his shirt from bunching up and looking wrinkled.
My youngest daughter, Amber, joined us for the shoot. Her job? Assistant producer.
Brad and Jeff Forrey, our senior writer and content developer, take a break from the interview.
After the two-hour interview, we shot a few photos of Brad for the In This Together promotional campaign and workbook.
It’s close to 3:30. And although Brad is smiling, I’m pretty sure he was ready to go home at this point.
Our crew breaks down and packs up our gear after a long, hot shoot.
